Volunteering
We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.
– Winston Churchill
CSMLS owes its existence and decades of growth as a professional organization to its member volunteers -- not to just a few, but thousands of volunteers who have given something back to their profession.
Our members volunteer in various ways – and you can too! The amount of time you volunteer is up to you.
Many volunteers start small – dedicating just a little time and effort. Most find it enriching and rewarding both professionally and personally and want to do more. Soon they are actively involved volunteering for assignments they never thought possible.
Volunteering is not just about giving – members often comment on the many unexpected benefits of volunteering including:
- Personal growth:
- Improving interpersonal skills
- Developing better communications skills
- Meeting a diverse range of people
- Professional enhancement:
- Learning or sharpening organizational skills
- Expanding your professional horizon
- Networking opportunities:
- Becoming a part of a professional community
- Increasing your visibility
- Helping CSMLS:
- Contributing positive change to your profession
- Offering divergent ideas from across the country
- Providing insight and perspective from your med lab
